It is about devotion and self sacrifice. It is about doing what has to be done to achieve a goal in combat, even if it means putting oneself in harms way. It is about giving for the team, not even thinking about own score or record. It is about being there, no matter what, in any and all occasions, always ready to help, always ready to be the first to step in and do what has to be done, in war time, in peace time, no matter what the issue. It is about what we call Honor. The CMOH determination is also measured against past war performances.

It is about an Officer's outstanding career achievements as a GNSF staff Officer. Candidates are chosen by the way of a secret vote cast by all GNSF Officers and a strict evaluation by the upper Chain of Command (DCNO, CNO and FADM) of the best 4 candidates. Final decision by the upper CoC must be unanimous for the recipient. This award can be recieved only once.
